Ola Electric, one of India’s leading EV manufacturers, has made a groundbreaking move beyond two-wheelers by stepping into the residential energy space. The company has launched Ola Shakti, India’s first fully indigenously designed and manufactured residential Battery Energy Storage System. With this, Ola Electric has positioned itself to capture a share of India’s ₹1 lakh crore battery storage market, which is expected to surge to over ₹3 lakh crore by 2030.

Redefining Energy for Indian Homes

Ola Shakti represents what the company calls a “fundamental shift in how Indians access, control, and consume energy.” Designed for homes, farms, and small businesses, the portable and modular system allows users to store and use clean energy efficiently. The launch reflects Ola Electric’s vision to go beyond mobility and enter the broader energy ecosystem, leveraging the same technology that powers its electric scooters and vehicles.

Chairman and Managing Director Bhavish Aggarwal said, “We have built world-class battery and cell technology for electric mobility. Ola Shakti extends that innovation to homes, helping them store and use clean energy intelligently.”

He also highlighted that Ola Shakti is a natural evolution of the company’s mission, combining its advanced 4680 cell technology, large-scale Gigafactory production, and nationwide distribution network. This integration allows rapid scale-up without the need for additional investments.

Cutting-Edge Technology Built in India

Ola Shakti is fully engineered and manufactured in India using the advanced 4680 Bharat Cell, ensuring durability, efficiency, and performance comparable to global standards. The modular design supports multi-directional stacking and easy scalability, making it adaptable for varied household and commercial needs. Its compact form ensures quick installation and convenient servicing.

The system can power appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, and farm pumps, making it a versatile clean energy solution. Ola has priced it competitively, with configurations starting from ₹29,999 for the 1kW/1.5kWh model and going up to ₹1,59,999 for the 6kW/9.1kWh version. Charging times are as low as two hours, and the system offers up to 1.5 hours of full-load backup.

A Strategic Shift Beyond Mobility

With Ola Shakti, Ola Electric is diversifying its portfolio to become a complete energy solutions provider. The company expects its battery storage demand to scale up to 5 GWh annually within the next few years.

This strategic expansion aligns with India’s clean energy goals and growing demand for household storage systems as solar adoption accelerates. As residential and rural energy independence becomes a priority, Ola Electric aims to play a central role in powering the next phase of India’s energy revolution.

Aggarwal’s move positions Ola not just as an EV manufacturer but as a technology-driven energy company — one that’s building products for both mobility and stationary power.

The Future of Ola Shakti

By localising battery manufacturing and pushing innovation through its Gigafactory, Ola Electric is setting new benchmarks for India’s clean tech industry. Ola Shakti’s success could define the company’s future beyond electric scooters and cars, opening doors to a multi-billion-dollar clean energy opportunity.

As India’s energy needs evolve, Ola’s expansion into battery storage could reshape how homes and businesses consume power — a step toward an energy-secure and sustainable future.
