The Indian government has expanded access to its ambitious PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP), allowing private sector players to use the platform for infrastructure and logistics planning. This move marks a major step toward strengthening public-private collaboration in national development, bringing the same data-driven tools used by ministries into the hands of private enterprises.

Empowering Private Sector Through PM GatiShakti Public

The newly launched PM GatiShakti Public is a query-based web platform that gives regulated access to selected, non-sensitive datasets from the main GatiShakti NMP system. These datasets will help private companies plan, assess, and execute infrastructure projects with better precision, reducing both time and cost.

According to the Commerce and Industry Ministry, the platform currently hosts 230 approved datasets covering physical and social infrastructure assets. With this access, users can conduct site suitability analyses, connectivity mapping, compliance checks, and generate analytical reports through pre-defined templates or their own customized criteria.

This launch fulfills the promise made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget, responding to a long-standing demand from industry leaders who sought greater transparency and access to government infrastructure data.

A New Era of Data-Driven Infrastructure Development

The PM GatiShakti Public platform promotes an integrated approach to infrastructure planning by merging data from multiple ministries into a single geospatial interface. Users can visualize multiple layers of data simultaneously—ranging from roads, railways, and ports to environmental and energy-related datasets.

The platform’s unified view allows planners to anticipate logistical challenges, minimize duplication of efforts, and ensure that projects are both cost-effective and sustainable. The government believes this transparency will lead to improved decision-making and attract more private investment into India’s infrastructure ecosystem.

Introducing PM GatiShakti Offshore

Alongside the public rollout, the government also launched PM GatiShakti Offshore, a digital platform designed specifically for offshore planning and development. Built under the Logistics Division of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), this system consolidates datasets related to offshore wind farms, marine resource exploration, and coastal infrastructure projects.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the initiative aims to strengthen India’s Blue Economy while supporting the nation’s transition toward green energy and sustainable coastal growth.

The offshore platform integrates geospatial data from multiple ministries including the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Environment and Forests, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ports and Shipping, Mines, Power, and Telecommunications. The data is categorized under four domains — Energy and Resources, Environment and Ecology, Infrastructure and Logistics, and Oceanic and Hazard Data.

Strengthening India’s Infrastructure Vision

Launched in 2021, the PM GatiShakti initiative was envisioned as a national digital backbone for coordinated infrastructure planning. With private access now open, the platform bridges the gap between government data and business innovation, allowing private players to plan industrial corridors, ports, logistics parks, and energy grids with unmatched clarity.

Experts believe this collaboration could usher in a new phase of efficiency, transparency, and sustainability in India’s growth journey. The move also aligns with the government’s larger goal of building multi-modal connectivity and supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat by fostering synergy across public and private infrastructure initiatives.
