Reliance Jio has once again reaffirmed its position as India’s digital powerhouse. During the company’s September quarter announcement, Jio Chairman Akash Ambani confirmed that the telecom giant has crossed the milestone of 500 million subscribers while promising to keep driving India’s digital revolution through cutting-edge technologies.
Jio’s vision for the future
Akash Ambani stated that Jio’s mission extends beyond connectivity and affordability, focusing on introducing new-age technology solutions that can transform everyday life in India. “Jio has proudly served over 500 million subscribers, addressing multiple digital needs of their everyday life. This has been possible due to Jio’s deep-tech initiatives that have become the backbone of our Prime Minister’s Digital India mission,” Ambani said.
He added, “Jio will continue to bring new-age technologies and enhance the lives of every Indian citizen. We have successfully deployed our indigenous technology stack at India scale and are now ready to take our homegrown innovations to the world.”
This global expansion plan reflects Reliance’s growing ambition to position Jio as a technology leader, not just in telecom but across the broader AI and cloud ecosystem.
Growth across digital services
During the quarter, Jio recorded an improvement in its average revenue per user (ARPU), which rose to ₹211.4 from ₹208.8 in the previous quarter. The company attributed this growth to higher data usage and a shift toward premium plans. Data traffic saw an annual surge of nearly 30 percent, reaching 58.4 billion GB, while voice traffic also rose significantly.
Jio’s broadband category, which includes JioFiber and JioAirFiber, added over a million users per month, highlighting the company’s aggressive growth beyond mobile connectivity. Jio has also rolled out high-speed broadband with 1 Gbps speeds across major regions, aiming to expand its digital infrastructure in both urban and rural markets.
Expanding the 5G and AI ecosystem
Jio’s next phase of growth is powered by its expanding True5G network. Senior Vice President Anshuman Thakur revealed that rural 5G sites witnessed 2.2 times more traffic growth than the national average, reflecting the company’s deep rural penetration.
He added that Jio is working with smartphone manufacturers to increase the availability of 4G and 5G-enabled devices in India. The company also plans to launch JioFrames, its much-anticipated smart glasses product, soon.
Jio’s new product lineup including JioAICloud and JioPC represents a major push into AI-driven enterprise and personal technology. These platforms are designed to cater to businesses and individuals seeking secure, cloud-based solutions. Partnerships with global technology leaders like Meta Platforms further strengthen Jio’s position in the AI and enterprise ecosystem.
Strengthening India’s digital backbone
With over half a billion subscribers, Jio’s growth story mirrors India’s digital transformation. The company’s investments in AI, broadband, and connected devices reinforce its commitment to building a tech-driven economy that empowers citizens and businesses alike.
Akash Ambani’s statement underscores Jio’s evolving identity — from a telecom giant to a full-fledged digital innovation company aiming to take India’s technological expertise to a global stage.
